Other Interests, Volunteering & Awards
Scouts
I never really left Scouts. Once joining aged 11, having previously been a cub, I quickly became an assistant patrol leader, becoming a patrol leader when the
previous one grew too old. I then progressed to a senior patrol leader, running games and teaching basic skills. Once I became too old to be a scout I became
an Explorer/Young Leader, and continued to turn up to group meeting assisting when needed. Once I turned 18 I became an Assistant Scout Leader,
helping run group meetings, and playing an important part of annual summer scout camp. I can teach young people new skills including pioneering, fire making,
basic survival skills and general camp skills.
Running
I am currently a member of the University running club, Aberystwyth Harriers and my
home running club, Hastings Runners. I have competed in several competitions and league tables
at home, winning the Junior 'Sussex Grand Prix' prize in 2009.
Duke Of Edinburgh's award
Have almost finished my DofE Gold award, with only 1 thing to finish off. The award has involved two 4 day hiking expeditions, 15 months volunteering, 12 months
improving a skill and 6 months physical fitness and 5 days in a residential activity.
Kayaking
I enjoy kayaking, and I own my own kayak. I gained the old style 1 star qualification and joined the local
kayaking club in hastings.
However due to other commitments and clashes with other activities I been unable to continue kayaking recently.
Other Outdoor activities
As you may have noticed I do enjoy being outside from time to time. Other things I like to do outside are:
- Pioneering, such as making 15ft high towers, aerial runways and other contraptions
- Archery
- Hiking
- Climbing
- Horse riding
Charity
Since a young age I have been doing the annual 16 miles 1066 Walk to raise money for the British Heart Foundation. For most of the years that I did this
my brother and I were the highest junior fundraisers.
I also ran the Hastings Half Marathon for the British Heart Foundation.
